Metro Centers for Community Advocay

GENERAL:

Responsible for therapeutic assessment for NOCAC forensic interviews and CARE Evaluations (pediatric forensic medical examinations for physical and sexual abuse). Assist parents and families with comfort measures and assist with certain behavioral interventions. Functions as a role model for staff to staff, child – parent, and staff to patient interactions.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES: (To take place at NOCAC)

  • Provide intake and referral services to assess the needs of children and families of survivors.
  • Provide sexual assault counseling services to children and/or the non-offending parent.
  • Provide individual/group counseling.
  • Develop an Advocacy plan with survivors utilizing program and community resources to help survivors meet their needs.
  • Assist medical team by preparing families and patients for examinations, answering questions, and anticipating special needs.
  • Report any patient concerns to the medical provider on call.
  • Schedules and tracks all patients in Next Gen and NCA track
  • Provide weekly group educational, counseling sessions, keeping detailed, separate notes on all attendees.
  • Provide crisis intervention for survivors and families of survivors.
  • Actively participate in gathering statistical data per grantor requirements.
  • Assist medical providers with examinations by providing support for the patient during the examination if needed.
  • Assists the medical providers who are working with each patient.
  • Follows Hospital Safety Policies and Procedures. Reports all hazards and accidents.
  • Reports patient/family complaints and/or allegations of abuse/neglect (DCFS/law enforcement) immediately, per Mandated Reporting requirements.
  • Communicate with assigned investigators regarding patient information.
  • Respects confidentiality of information acquired according to HIPPA regulations and unit procedures for phone/visiting and disclosure of information.
  • Complete Metro New Employee Training, Darkness to Light, Stewards of Children’s training and assures that all contacts with children adhere to the limited one on one policy.
  • Request all time off/call offs with MCCA and NOCAC.
  • Assists co-workers with clinical operations.
  • Complete MCCA’s 40-hour training

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Explore and develop community resources for survivors of sexual assault.
  • Establish rapport with survivors and their caregivers. Talk with the caregivers to assess their emotional and practical needs. Develop a plan of action including follow up Advocacy if appropriate.
  • Advocate for survivors in a variety of systems including written and verbal presentations of survivors’ needs, background, or emotional state.
  • Complete all case records accurately at the time of intake.
  • Provide follow up with all survivors and caregivers.
  • Close out case files per agency guidelines.
  • Maintain statistics for all survivors served each month.
  • Complete reports as requested by the Executive Director of MCCA and NOCAC
  • Abide by grantor policies and regulations.
  • Abide by MCCA and NOCAC policies and procedures.
  • Be sensitive to all LGBT and multi-cultural, multi-racial, and language/customs.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director/Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MSW or related degree. Experience in counseling preferred. Extensive experience in the field of Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault.
  • Crisis intervention or family and adult counseling experience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Automobile liability coverage, valid driver’s license.
  • Agreement to abide by the standards and the ethical practices required by our funding sources.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience in working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of our survivors/location/information.
