What does a great Manager, Software Development do?

As the Software Development Manager for the Output Solutions team, you manage the development team by taking over the current applications and provide immediate and longer-term direction. This role is highly visible within our organization, as well as, other external Fiserv groups. This is an exciting opportunity to come in and make an immediate impact to the business and based on the visibility it will position the candidate for future growth within the organization upon shown success. The position requires to lead staff on-shore in as well as work with off-shore development teams


As a Manager of a Software Development team, you can expect to do the following:

  • Day to day management responsibilities for the Portal Support and Development Team to including: Define and estimate future tasks and projects for the application; Assign resources to work and track progress; Identify, track and manage risks while keeping management updated on project status.
  • Collaborate with the Implementation and Service organizations to support new and existing clients: Handle client critical issues; Provide status on current development activities
  • Lead the DevOps team: Establish the Software Configuration Management process; Enable the team to execute the CI/CD pipeline along with the release process
  • Management of Development staff: Recruit and onboard additional resources; Establish and track team goals, metrics and development plans for each associate to ensure we are positioned for the future; Handle promotions, performance reviews, increases, disciplinary actions and terminations
  • Work with the Product Management team to understand and have input to the product roadmap
  • Review and recommend improvements to the overall processes in place today
  • Collaborate with other peer managers on standard methodologies. Most notably are the CMMI and Agile initiatives Leads and owns software modules and provide guidance to the team


Basic qualifications for consideration:

  • 5 years of professional management or team/tech lead experience of software development teams (preferably of 10 or more)
  • 7 years of experience in software development
  • Previous customer facing application experience with browser-based applications.
  • Experience and understanding of development practices like CMMI and/or Agile.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience


Preferred skills or experience include:

  • Experience on building and managing mobile applications will be plus
  • Experience on managing team in different time zones including offshore
