Senior Counsel, Product and Privacy

Ouster

ABOUT US

At Ouster, we build sensors and tools for engineers, roboticists, and researchers, so they can make the world safer and more efficient. We’ve transformed LIDAR from an analog device with thousands of components to an elegant digital device powered by one chip-scale laser array and one CMOS sensor. The result is a full range of high-resolution LIDAR sensors that deliver superior imaging at a dramatically lower price. Our advanced sensor hardware and vision algorithms are used in autonomous cars, drones and many other applications. If you’re motivated by solving big problems, we’re hiring key roles across the company and need your help!
We are looking for a full-time Senior Counsel, Product and Privacy. Working closely with our global product, engineering, and commercial teams, you will focus on product counseling and transactional support playing an integral role in developing and scaling Ouster’s ever-growing portfolio of innovative products – including its digital lidar sensors and its perception software solutions. • Create and operationalize the privacy policies and practices in every area across Ouster (e.g., product, employment, etc.) to build internal and external confidence in Ouster’s data and security management.
    • Provide senior legal support on complex global commercial transactions by serving as a point of escalation for Ouster’s contracts administrator.
    • Additionally, as a member of a small legal team, you will also have ample opportunity (and be expected to) pitch in and work on matters outside of your core responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Juris Doctor, Master’s in Law, or equivalent.
    • Qualified to practice law in the country in which you are located.
    • 5+ years post-qualification legal experience in software and hardware product counseling and commercial transacting, including at least 3 years in-house with a European technology company.

    • Experience working with engineering and product teams to launch hardware and software products in emerging fields.
    • Substantive knowledge of global privacy laws (including United States and Europe), and relevant privacy/cybersecurity frameworks.
    • Familiarity with operating independently and globally, with a proven track record of self-motivated leadership of cross-functional and cross-border legal initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
