Successful candidate will be expected to proactively manage and work with machinery technology and hotel technical systems ensuring that all related systems and areas of the Company’s new builds conforms design criteria and operational requirements during ship’s entire lifecycle. Understanding and mastering low-flashpoint fuels (LNG, NG, Methanol as fuel) as new and different fuels in our fleet are essential for successful performance in this position. Superintendent Machinery provides input to specific technical and new building projects, delivers machinery technology development work with technical consultancies, classification societies and other authorities in the industry strongly collaborating with shipyards, RCL operations and other in-house sources. In addition, Superintendent Machinery is having responsibility of managing, coordinating, and updating guidelines and ship specifications with internal and external business partners such as shipyards, contractors, and consultancies. Approves drawings and standards for new build projects, attends inspections, FATs, quay and sea trials and other similar on-site inspections related to construction of Machinery and hotel technical systems and equipment within its appendices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organizes proactive new technology development work with current and potential new makers and systems designers and marine operations.
  • Establishes studies and recommendations in equipment and design solutions for company’s project portfolio.
  • During building process, ensures daily inspections and factory acceptance tests (FAT) attendance and approval
  • During commissioning process, ensures harbour acceptance tests (HAT) and sea acceptance tests (SAT) attendance and approval
  • Capable to do FMECA, HAZIP/HAZOP or similar risk assessment studies and machinery feasibility studies .
  • Responsible for coordinating and updating guidelines for related technology.
  • Participates in risk assessment and feasibility studies.
  • Applies relevant rules and regulations in the development of cruise ship Machinery design and building, including evaluation and implementation of new technology.
  • Organizing and reporting of design and development processes in the field of Machinery and related technologies including hotel technical systems.
  • Develops optimized life cycle costs (LCC) procedure.
  • Is part of the inspection team to articipating necessary inspections and factory acceptance test (FAT) during the building process. Participate testing processes for quay and sea trial procedures.
  • Participates in new build drawings, including makers and design approval processes.
  • Prepares vessel specification for new build projects and updates specifications based on discussions with internal and external partners
  • Ensures, that all innovations and Lessons Learned from existing fleet will be handled on future projects.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the scope of the project.

Key skills & experience required:

  • Extensive experience of ship Machinery and related technologies, especially from marine LNG systems.
  • Leading position handling LNG in ship under IGF or IGC code.
  • Hands on practical experience handling low-flashpoint fuels (LNG and Methanol) and low-flashpoint fuels systems and equipment and extensive knowledge on IGF and IGC code.
  • Ability to work under tight schedules
  • Capable to handle large systems and projects simultaneously
  • Ensure good and strong co-operation with yard and suppliers
  • Motivated to work ashore and in multicultural working environment

Qualifications:

  • Adequate education, M. Sc. Or B. Sc. Mechanical Engineering or similar. Chief Engineer License is considered as additional merit.
  • Minimum 8 years experience in Marine Operations and/or Fleet
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • In-depth knowledge of SOLAS, IMO, MARPOL, IACS and other relevant regulations.
  • Excellent written & verbal English, other languages as an advantage.
  • High level communications skills. Ability proactively to create and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, development partners and with remote based colleagues.
  • Independent and self-oriented skills to lead simultaneous projects.
  • Strong team and network leadership skills.
  • Relevant computer skills.
  • Ability to work under tight schedules.
  • Able to work in multicultural working environment and willingness to travel.
