We are Siemens Corporate IT and we’re driving the adoption of User Centric Design across IT and enabling Siemens business units. As part of a larger UX organisation we’re looking for a Design System Lead to drive and implement our strategy for Design Systems.

You’ll need concrete experience and success in building and deploying Design Systems at an enterprise scale. You will be involved for creating and maintaining Design systems that UX teams, Engineers, and Product Managers use to design and develop Siemens products.

Siemens is a global organisation and as such the people you work with are also based around the world. You’ll need to be ready to collaborate with distributed teams across the world.

As a Design System Lead, you will:

Sell, sell, sell! You’ll need to be able to fluidly explain and sell the concepts and benefits of Design Systems to stakeholders at all levels – from a junior software engineer to a senior manager, and business stakeholders too.

  • You need to be able to adapt your pitch to suit your audience, confirm their understanding and win their buy-in.
  • As the Design System advocate, you’ll precisely articulate business and technical, goals and benefits.

  • Think big, explore divergent concepts, whilst understanding how to converge and build out these ideas, leveraging capabilities that are not always in your organisation.

  • You need to be able to drive and contribute to the technical implementation and adoption of Design Systems.
  • Maintain our brand consistency across Design Systems
  • Establish principals, standards, and practices to support Design System scalability, efficiency, and consistency.
  • You’ll need to watch and contribute to the trends in this space.

We are looking for:

Background and experiences:

You are a Design System Guru, you literally need to be able to write the book on how it’s done, so you will probably have 5+ years’ experience of doing something similar. You’ll be able talk us through your achievements, especially your:

  • Experience building design systems, scaled across a variety of products and services.
  • Experience in unifying and maintaining a design system across multiple teams with differing goals and priorities-including developing, maintaining, documenting, and gaining adoption of pattern libraries.

Knowledge and skills:

Naturally you will have:

  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, presentation, data analysis, and storytelling skills
  • A proven ability to cultivate an environment of teamwork and cooperation; build partnerships across multiple design organizations.
  • An expert grasp of the levers that balance business goals, team processes, and user needs, and how they affect the production of usable Design Systems
  • An ability to distil complex problems into simple and understandable solutions and communicate those solutions to both leaders and peers.
  • Expert knowledge of user-centred design principles
  • An understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Expertise using a broad range of tools such as Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Invision, and other design related software required.
  • Solid understanding of design theory (typography, colour, grid, etc.)
