DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a leader with Sustainability and Procurement experience to lead a multi-region sustainability program in the Global Procurement Organization (GPO). This strategic position will lead the team responsible for the development and implementation of strategies that help us to achieve Amazon’s sustainability and Net Zero Carbon goals. They will work and partner with multiple teams to develop and execute sustainability (environmental and social) strategies across various categories.
The person in this role will coordinate with several teams across Amazon and will interact with our most important stakeholders to satisfy organizational requirements. This role will partner with internal business owners and key stakeholders to manage and improve the sustainability performance of suppliers providing non-inventory goods and services, such as: packaging, powered industrial equipment, material handling and conveyance, maintenance goods, IT equipment, janitorial services, outsourced facilities services, etc.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT
Candidate must be able to travel, up to 30%

Key job responsibilities
This position will have the following responsibilities:
• Lead a direct team of 8-10 employees
• Work closely with leadership to develop long-term strategic plans to enable us to achieve Amazon’s sustainability and Net Zero Carbon goals
• Align stakeholders on a shared vision and defined milestones, advocating for resources to accomplish plan
• Collaborate with internal Amazon WW Sustainability experts and GPO leadership
• Drive appropriate relationships with key external stakeholders, such as external sustainability risk tool companies, consultancies, etc.
• Act as enabler for sustainability; anticipate strategic opportunities and keep key stakeholders informed
• Drive resource creation for category suppliers in Supplier Relationship Management activities to mitigate risk, improve sustainability performance and add value to Amazon
• Standardize processes, operational tools, operating standards, and supplier management activities.
• Develop scalable and effective mechanisms for reviewing, managing, and reporting on key metrics
• Identify, achieve and report on metrics, KPIs and value targets for sustainability

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
• Earn the trust of key stakeholders to drive alignment with the business
• Create a sustainability strategy in conjunction with internal customers to ensure there is a comprehensive, unified approach
• Define and report on key metrics
• Achieve yearly value targets
• Manage annual budget processes
• Champion standards and process improvements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, and a creative, critical thinker with an intense motivation to learn. You must be an effective communicator and be able to work independently and as a leader of peers to generate high-quality work product in a collaborative, creative, ever-changing, and sometimes ambiguous environment. You must have a professional demeanor and be able to partner with people at every level.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, management, finance, sustainability, or similar
• Experience in program management, sustainability, environmental engineering and/or supply chain,
• Experience in procurement, contracts, and negotiation,
• Experience and proficiency in strategy creation and program management,
• Experience with cross-functional team influence and management to deliver impactful outcomes,
• Experience in a global environment and large complex projects,
• Strong working knowledge of sustainability,
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications
• Experience in Scope 3 emissions, Carbon accounting, Engineering or Architecture
• Advanced degree (MBA, MS)
• Passionate about sustainability
