Job Description

At Mangopay, we are committed to ensuring that all of our customers’ data is protected, and that our work complies with data protection legislation.

We are looking for our Lead Legal Counsel – Data Privacy to support compliance with GDPR and other data related legislation for all the group entities and act as the main point of contact between Mangopay and the data protection authorities. Compliance with UK & US privacy laws is also in the scope of this position.
We are looking for a legal counsel with relevant experience in implementing privacy laws and a strong appetite for digital and product-related matters. Previous experience in the payment industry field is a plus.

This role can be based in France, Luxembourg, Poland (Warsaw), Germany (Berlin), Spain (Madrid) or UK (London).

Your mission 

  • Act as the primary point of contact within the company for other teams, authorities, and any relevant public bodies on issues related to data protection.
  • Ensure the company’s policy is in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Luxembourg professional secrecy, the UK’s Data Protection Act, and U.S. privacy laws.
  • Evaluate the existing data protection framework, identify potential gaps and design the strategy to rectify them.
  • Analyse new projects and commercial partnerships to ensure compliance with the legal framework.
  • Advise business and engineering teams regarding new product development, privacy by design techniques, and data governance.
  • Draft & update internal data protection agreements, policies, guidelines, and procedures, in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Deliver training of staff members across different business units who are involved in data handling or processing and promote a culture of data protection compliance across all units of the company.
  • Manage the junior privacy counsel of the company.

You will be reporting directly to our VP Legal and work closely with our General Counsel.

Qualifications

Expertise and experience 

  • Minimum of 10 years experience working in data protection compliance
  • Experience in advising tech companies on privacy and data governance issues
  • Experience with data protection authorities
  • International experience will be valued
  • Strong project management skills
  • Fluency in English and French proficiency is needed
