Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Student Affairs Officer in the Division of Student Affairs, the Director of Engagement and Advocacy will work across the Division and institution to advocate for the equity and inclusion priorities held within the Division of Student Affairs and identified by the University; with primary functions of providing leadership to the Centers for Advocacy and Student Engagement (CASE) staff, sharing expertise and coaching for specific equity and justice initiatives; collaborating and creating strong partnerships within the University and out into the community to support students in their educational success.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful applicants must have the following:
  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum of 7 years work experience related to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice
  • Minimum of 2 years supervising professional staff
  • Evidence of direct experience developing, responding to and implementing diversity and inclusion priorities and programs with partners, including staff, students and community

Preferred Qualifications

Highly successful candidates should also have:
  • Advanced Degree (masters or above) or related certifications (equity, diversity, inclusion)
  • Prior experience serving in a senior-level administration position
  • Evidence of the ability to lead long-term strategy implementation, utilizing limited resources with tactical and flexible implementation
  • Proven experience communicating with diverse partners; fostering relationships and establishing credibility with a wide-range of constituencies; ability to navigate conflict effectively and influence without authority across all levels of an organization
  • Excellent change management, project management and process improvement skills; ability to respond quickly to changing needs and priorities
  • Experience implementing plans to support and train staff on issues of bias, inclusion and equity in service delivery and/or hiring practices
  • Demonstrated experience responding to student needs and working to reflect and support inclusive and equity-minded practice in all Student Affairs policies and services
  • Working knowledge of theory, research and practice surrounding higher ed student engagement, belonging, equity and inclusion practices
