Our client, an esteemed academic publisher is looking for a passionate and dynamic publisher to manage a portfolio of journals in the field of Physics. Central to the role will be editorial management, strategic development and growth of the physics collection. The ideal candidate will be skilled in manging and developing networks and relationships within the discipline and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop the portfolio and identify opportunities for growth.

 

Publisher: Key responsibilities  

 

  • Supervising the editorial process, from article selection to publication, ensuring quality and scientific integrity
  • Working closely with authors, reviewers and editorial boards to ensure an effective peer review process
  • Alongside and with the scientific editors of the journals:
    • Identifying emerging trends in physics and proposing editorial strategies to strengthen the market position of journals
    • Work to increase the journal’s visibility, submissions and reputation in the field
  • Ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the journals, in close collaboration with the relevant internal staff, e.g. content management, sales, marketing, etc
  • Representing the company at conferences and academic events to promote publications and establish partnerships
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with editors and editorial boards to build and maintain the reputation and quality of the journals
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with authors, researchers and academic institutions
  • Implement new author/publishing services for the portfolio as required
  • Organise and host editorial board meetings, leading discussions on content development based on analysis and evidence
  • Keep abreast of recent developments in the field of physics to ensure that journals remain relevant.  

 

Publisher: Skills/experience  

 

  • University degree in science, ideally in physics
  • Significant experience in scientific, technical and medical journal publishing, including journal portfolio development, would be advantageous
  • Fluency in English is essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable with new technologies and social networks
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
